We outline 3 aspects of site security:

Passwords – use a reasonable number of characters and a combination of numbers, lower and upper case letters, and special characters
Change passwords regularly
Keep your account information secure – do not share them and do not “remember” them on public computers; log out after each session
Use antivirus and internet security software

Passwords are hashed (they are not stored in plain text) – standard
Firewalls, brute force protection, scanning, back-ups
SSL certificate – all transmitted data is encrypted
Payment gateways – all payment information is handled through payment gateways like Stripe and Paypal

The place where the site resides
A reputable and secure server that is firewalled, implements custom security rules, and zero-day vulnerability fixes

NOTE: There is no such thing as 100% security.
